I love this time of year.

Good food. Great fellowship. Time with family and friends.

A heightened sense of gratitude.

The feelings and emotions that accompany this season are unmatched throughout the year. (I am definitely not cooking, cleaning and preparing this much for Arbor Day.)

In the midst of all the general feelings of peace and blessing, life still abounds.

Do you remember that feeling you had when you first started dating your spouse?

You know…the one where you were excited, nervous, elated, anxious, courageous, timid, hopeful and yet scared to death all at the same time.

It’s the same feeling that drove you to presenting the absolute best version of yourself in the hopes this individual, who seemed way too good to be into you, would not realize their mistake and keep the relationship going until (a) you could change or (b) enough time would pass and they would just give in and commit to you for life.

I’ll be honest, I have little to no idea how this feeling represents itself in women.

Picture this…two weary and frightened soldiers clinging to each other in the dark of night.

Every breath echoes in their ears as they sit and listen.

Listen and wait.

The creaking of the old, worn furniture where they rest and, which has become a safe haven of sorts from the daily onslaught of psychological torture, creaks their location to the very one responsible for their retreat.

Twelve straight hours wasn’t enough? Could they possible have to endure more?
