When my mother got remarried, she asked if I would be the photographer. Actually, she asked if my wife, a very gifted photographer, would take the pictures, but that didn’t work out.
So, I took my wife’s camera and did the best I could to get some nice, memorable shots for my mom and her new husband.
What you don’t find out about wedding photography, especially the group pics portion of the shoot, is that it is extremely difficult to get a good shot of multiple people all at once…especially when children are involved.
Of course, with family members coming together for the first time in years, you want to make sure and capture the moment perfectly.
After getting a collection of shots that I felt were of “superior excellence” (according to my incredibly low standards and limited photographic abilities), I hopped into a full-family shot and let someone else take the pics.
When I got home and loaded all the images into my computer, this is what I found.

The beautiful little girl in the middle with her mouth wide open and her tongue hanging out is my extremely playful niece, Kailyn. As cute as she looks in that dress, these are not the pictures I wanted to include in the photo-book I was making as a gift for my mom’s wedding.
So, I did what any dedicated Wannabe-photographer would do in my situation. I opened up Photoshop and got to work. Unfortunately, I knew next to nothing about how to edit in Photoshop, so my “fix” didn’t come out quite like I had planed.
Take a look back at that top photograph. See the fix?
If not, you aren’t looking very well, but here is a little help. (click on the image for a larger view)
My wife and I will always refer to this as my “iRobot Picture”.
